The host venue of the 2014 Commonwealth Games is starting to take shape
Work is well ahead of schedule on the five bowling green complex that will be utilised for the Games at the picturesque Kelvingrove in Glasgow's West End of the City, which is bounded by the historic and architecturally renouned Art Gallery and Museum, Kelvin Hall, Glasgow University and the surrounding Park Circus and Gardens.
Foundations for two of the five grass greens, which have been a part of the community for numerous years, have already been re-laid with the other three progressing at a hastie pace as the first phase of the project is expected to be completed by mid this year.
The facility will include the installation of a new drainage system, the complete reconstruction of greens and ditches, a new automated irrigation scheme and the resurfacing of all footpaths throughout the venue.
Glasgow 2014 chief executive officer John Scott said `lawn bowls is a fantastic sport which holds a very special place in the heart of the Commonwealth Games movement.'
Seating will be provided for around 2,500 spectators.
