BCiB State Pennant Flags decided for 2010
Ettalong Bowling Club was the venue for the final days play for the BCiB Ladies State Pennant finals for 2010 and what a dramatic final they had. With the grade 1 flag depending on the last game as St Johns Park in first place played Raymond Terrace in second; the scene was set for a battle royal. Raymond Terrace needed to win on both rinks gaining all 5 points and at least 15 shots to catch up and as the game went on the Terrace side was looking dangerously close to making their dreams come true. The St Johns side managed to squeeze out a draw with the last bowl to save the side causing them to losing only 4.5 points instead of the required 5 and this allowed them to retain the Flag they had won the year previously.
In Grade 2 the Tura Beach Club won more convincingly by 45 shot to 32 over Coonabarabran allowing them the pleasure of taking the flag home and a similar story was seen in Grade 4 with the Gundagai girls strolling home with 49 to 34 shots over Uralla. The Grade 3 playoff was a different story as the Orange City and Goulburn Railway teams battled it out for supremacy right to the very end. The Orange City team emerged victors by 3 shots winning 41 to 38. Congratulations to the Ettalong Memorial BC, Umina BC, The Entrance BC for all their had work turning on a wonderful event for the NSWWBA and all sponsors included.
Cabramatta give it everything in their bid to make the final days play
Entering the final day of sectional play, the youthful Cabramatta side had high hopes of reaching the final as they sat in second place to Coonabarabran. They had lost their first game to Coonabarabran by 1 shot on the first day and needed to secure the win against the strong south West Rocks side and hope for an upset in the match with Dapto Citizens v Coonabarabran to progress to the final. Getting down to business they started the game well although so did South West Rocks as after 5 ends the Rocks were narrowly in the lead at 12 - 11. The Cabra girls took swift action by reversing this trend within the next 10 ends to be 18 - 13 ahead after 16 ends and the girls seemed to be in their stride as they crept away gradually. The Rocks girls weren't going to go down without a fight though and as the 27th end approached they had clawed back the deficit to only 4 shots and this tight squeeze carried on through the next 9 ends as the teams battled it out for supremacy with Cabra slightly ahead by 31 to 29. The Cabra girls kept up their fighting spirit to the end managing to hold off the South West Rock girls with a victory of 37 to 35 but this was not enough to achieve their dream. The Coonabarabran team remained undefeated as they emerged victorious against Dapto Citizens resulting in Cabramatta and Coonabarabran finishing on the same shots overall with the first match win by 1 shot being the difference between both teams. Good Luck to Coonabarabran in todays final against Tura Beach!

Dapto Citizens do battle at Umina Beach
As the conditions were perfect for a great days bowling at Umina beach with no wind and beautiful sunshine, Dapto Citizens set about taking the game to their worthy opponents Cabramatta. As the match got underway it was Cabramatta that jumped out the gates early with a 10 - 4 lead after 10 ends. Dapto were quick to rectify this situation clawing their way back to trail 14 - 11 after 15 ends and struck a blow to Cabra on the 19th end with Marj McGartland team scoring a 4 reducing the deficit to 3 as the score read 18 - 15 to Cabra. The game got closer and closer until they were inseparable at 23 a piece on the 29th end with each skips last bowl being the decider of the end. As the crowd became more involved with cheers and roars; Dapto Citizens pushed into the lead for the first time in the match on the 35th end to lead by 1 shot although Cabramatta's Jess Watkins was quick to response by playing a massive shot snatching 2 shots from the Dapto girls. This seemed to lift the Cabra side who managed to round out the match 35 shots to 33 leaving the Dapto Citizens girls with 1 point from a possible 5.
The afternoon was another affair altogether for the Dapto girls as they were the ones to jump out the blocks first playing against the Lithgow City side. After 10 ends the Dapto girls were looking comfortable at 12 - 6 in front and managed to maintain their lead with ease at 27 to 18 on the 22 end. With the temperature dropping and the light fading, the Dapto girls kept their cool by slowly but surely picking up shots to finish the game 45 to 32 and showing they truly are a force to be reckoned with. Good luck tomorrow Dapto Champs!!
